Abstract

The advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has brought about a significant transformation in the modern educational landscape, necessitating adaptation not only in urban areas but also in Eastern Indonesia. This study aims to explore the implementation of AI as a tool for instructional innovation and to analyze its impact on academic ethics at SMA Negeri 5 Tual. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data collection was conducted through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with educators and students, and an analysis of curriculum documents. The findings indicate that the use of AI (such as virtual learning assistants and interactive media) positively enhances teacher creativity, teaching method variety, and student learning motivation; conversely, the integration of this technology presents critical challenges regarding academic ethics, including the risk of plagiarism, a decline in independent critical thinking skills due to reliance on generative AI tools, and a lack of understanding regarding digital integrity. The integration of AI in secondary education requires a prudent approach specifically through the strengthening of digital literacy and the formulation of clear academic ethics policies by the school to ensure that instructional innovation proceeds hand-in-hand with the development of students' character and integrity
